Participates in fatty acid biosynthesis and polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis. Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of beta-ketoacyl-ACP substrates to beta-hydroxyacyl-ACP products, the first reductive step in the elongation cycle of fatty acid biosynthesis.
